Obsidian Saber Tooth Tiger Carving~CROSSTTC. Smilodon, also know as Saber Tooth Tigers went extinct roughly 10,000 years ago. Many of the common names we use for cats have broad associations such as “panther” “wild cat” or “leopard” (such as “snow leopard” and “clouded leopard”) and these names do not indicate close relationships but instead are more descriptive of what the animal looks like. When fossils of Saber-toothed Cats were discovered, scientists attempted to compare them with animals that they were more familiar with. Tigers are amongst the oldest of the big cats, they are the largest cats alive today, and have the biggest teeth. Smilodon itself is the general name for three separate related species: Smilodon populator, Smilodon fatalis, and Smilodon gracilis. Despite their name, they’re not closely related to tigers or other big cats in the genus Panthera, which also includes lions, leopards, and jaguars. The three species mostly differ in size—while Smilodon gracilis typically weighed in at around 55-100 kg (100-220 lbs), Smilidon fatalis tipped the scales at 160-280 kg (350-600 lbs); approximately the same weight as a Siberian tiger. Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, formed when lava solidifies so quickly that mineral crystals do not have time to grow. It is said to act to cleanse the energetic field or aura of disharmonious energy, densities, and negative attachments. It is thought to be very grounding and protective and also assist one in choosing behaviors that are only for one's highest good. Obsidian has also been used for scrying, or crystal gazing. A strongly protective stone, Obsidian forms a shield against negativity, providing a grounding cord from the base chakra to the center of the earth.  It absorbs negative energy from the environments and blocks psychic attack and negative spiritual influences. Obsidian brings clarity to the mind and clears confusion. Providing deep soul healing, Obsidian goes back to past lives to heal festering emotions or trauma carried forward into the present, bringing depth and clarity to emotions. 94mm x 56mm x 56mm.
